Figma Integration
Overview
Embed live Figma frames inside Kanvas AI so designs sit alongside the work they belong to — on task cards, in task descriptions, in comments, and in chat. Paste a Figma frame URL and Kanvas AI replaces it with an interactive preview that anyone with access can open in Figma with a click.
Use it for: keeping designs and tasks together, sharing a frame for review without sending people on a hunt through Figma, and giving non-designers a quick read on the proposed look without opening the design tool.
How it works
- A workspace owner connects Figma from Workspace settings → Figma integration, authorising Kanvas AI to read your team’s files.
- Anyone in the workspace can then paste a Figma frame URL into a task description, comment, or chat message.
- Kanvas AI recognises the URL and replaces it with an embedded preview that includes the frame thumbnail and a click-through to the file.
- When a task description contains one or more Figma links, a small Figma badge appears on the card on the board so people know there’s a design attached without opening the task.
- Permissions are respected — anyone who doesn’t have access to the Figma file sees a placeholder rather than the frame content.
Setup
- Open Workspace settings → Figma integration. Only workspace owners can connect or disconnect Figma.
- Click Connect Figma, approve access in the Figma authorisation prompt, and complete the flow.
- Once connected, any newly pasted Figma URL renders as a preview. Existing URLs already in tasks or messages start rendering as previews too.
- Disconnect from the same page if you need to revoke access. Previews stop rendering once the connection is removed.
Usage
Embed a frame in a task description. Copy the frame URL from Figma (right-click → Copy link), paste it into a task description, and Kanvas AI replaces it with the live preview.
Embed a frame in a comment. Same as above — paste the URL into a task comment or a chat message.
See attached designs at a glance. Cards with one or more linked Figma frames show a small Figma badge on the board. Hover to see which file or frame is linked.
See every linked design on a task. Open the task detail view to see all linked Figma frames together with previews and click-through links.
Open in Figma. Click any preview to jump straight to that frame in the Figma file (Figma will ask you to sign in if you aren’t already).
Edge cases & limits
- File permissions apply. Anyone who can’t view the underlying Figma file sees a placeholder instead of the frame. Designs are not made public through Kanvas AI.
- Frame previews are static thumbnails. They update when the design changes, but they don’t reflect every micro-edit instantly — refresh the page after a big design change if you want the freshest thumbnail.
- Disconnect stops new previews. Previews already rendered remain visible as plain links after disconnect; new pastes become plain text until the integration is reconnected.
- One workspace at a time. Kanvas AI connects to one Figma team per workspace.
- Public files. Public Figma files render to anyone, in line with Figma’s own permission model.
